Looking to quickly sell a new or used item in the turf industry? Here, we’ve shared our top 6 tips for fast, successful selling.
Selling Tip #1: Find Your Audience
Don’t waste your time trying to sell your items to people who aren’t even looking to buy. Instead, seek out potential buyers by selling your items on the websites that these buyers are most likely to be using.
For instance, if you have machinery, equipment, parts, accessories, or even services that you’re looking to sell in the turf, greenkeeping, and agriculture industries, use marketplaces like Turf Market, since potential buyers are visiting these sites with the aim of finding the right item.
You don’t have to convince buyers that they need your item – they’re already there. So, you’re much more likely to make a sale by listing your item on marketplaces, rather than simply sharing them on Facebook.
Selling Tip #2: Take High-Quality Pictures And Videos
If you’re selling a physical item, make sure to take lots of pictures of the item from all angles and perspectives. This shows your potential buyers exactly what to expect from an item and helps them to understand what it would be like to use the product in real life.
If you can video record the item, even better. This helps you to provide further visual information about an item that can be difficult to achieve with a still image.
We recommend adding around 6-10 high-quality images and videos to your listing, depending on the item you’re selling.
If you’re selling a used item, be sure to photograph any marks or defects that the buyer should know about before parting with their cash.
Selling Tip #3: Clearly Define The Item’s Key Features
Potential buyers can learn a lot about your item from images – but they will also need to know other important information about the product’s features.
For instance, if you’re selling machinery, the model name and number are important, as well as any performance features that are specific to the machine and can’t be determined by the images alone.
Let’s say you’re selling a used John Deere ride-on mower. We recommend listing the most important features in a bullet list, like this:
“Used John Deere Ride-On Lawn Mower: Good Used Condition
- Bought in 2016
- X165 model
- Regularly serviced at John Deere dealer
- 22 hp twin-cylinder engine
- Low hours (210)
- 48-inch triple-blade deck
- 2 keys
- Removable mulching kit
- Automatic hydrostatic transmission
- Slight wear on front of seat (see image)”
Sharing the most important listing details in bullet format increases your likelihood of making a sale because you’re not overwhelming potential buyers with paragraphs of rambling information.
Selling Tip #4: Provide Complete Listing Information
Even if a buyer is really keen to buy your product, this may not be possible for them due to price, location, or other restrictions.
You can avoid wasting time – both your own and your potential buyers’ – by providing complete information in your listing that covers everything the buyer should know, including:
- Price
- Selling location
- Whether the buyer will need to collect or whether the item can be delivered/posted
- Whether the buyer will need to pay for any additional expenses (such as servicing) after buying the item in order to make it usable
Fill in all the fields on the listing form to provide a comprehensive overview of exactly what you’re offering. It should help you to sell your item faster.
Selling Tip #5: Communicate Effectively With Your Buyers
Once a buyer contacts you about an item, aim to get back to them as quickly as possible.
Effective communication shows a buyer that you’re not here to waste their time and that you want to make the purchasing process as hassle-free as possible.
Not only will this help you to process a sale more quickly; it’ll also show the buyer that you’re a reliable seller, so they’re more likely to buy from you again.
If you’re selling on a marketplace that has a built-in chat function, use this. Otherwise, respond to the buyer with their preferred mode of contact, whether that’s via WhatsApp, email, or phone call.
Selling Tip #6: See What Your Competition Is Doing
These tips should help you to effectively sell your turf machinery, accessories, parts, and equipment.
But if you want to see exactly what works, check out what your competitors are doing.
See how other companies are selling new or used items. Check out eBay and take a look at the listings on there. You’ll soon get an understanding of the listings that work and those that don’t.
If you find a particularly helpful, informative listing, copy the layout. Just make sure to swap all the information in the listing for your own product details.
