Wimbledon, All England Lawn Tennis Club – Mechanic
This role is based at The All England Lawn Tennis Club Community Tennis Centre at Rayne’s Park. We are looking for a Mechanic with proven knowledge and practical experience in a professional environment with grass tennis courts and other tennis court surfaces. They must have a full driving license and excellent written and verbal communication skills amongst other requirements. They will be repairing and maintaining AELTC’S grounds machinery and equipment, daily inspection of equipment and reporting any major defects and maintaining health, safety and security in the workplace amongst other duties. During the Championships, their role will be to fully prepare the courts using the latest technology and support the Groundstaff Department in delivering the world’s premier tennis tournament.

Repairing and maintaining AELTC’s grounds machinery and equipment including grass-cutting machinery, hydraulic, electrical, 2-stroke machinery and other mechanised equipment across all venues

Inspect equipment performance on the courts and pitches daily

Fabricating machinery, equipment and/or parts

Reporting any major defects in machinery and address accordingly

Keeping records of machinery information, equipment condition, cost of repairs and work carried out in conjunction with the Senior Mechanic

Organising stock control and budgeting

Responsible for the workshop area maintenance and cleanliness

Maintain health, safety and security in the workplace and comply with company procedures and guidelines

Regulate employee usage of equipment and machinery in the absence of the Senior Groundsperson

Assist with the training and/or instruction of employees on the safe operation of machinery and equipment, and the proper cleaning procedures after use

On a day-to-day basis offering flexibility to provide support and work across the Groundstaff and Horticultural Services Department as required across all venues

Taking personal responsibility to be in clean and presentable AELTC uniform during working hours

The Groundstaff Department’s role is to maintain grass, clay, hard and covered courts and the croquet lawns for year-round use by Members and guests

To fully prepare the courts for The Championships using the latest technology combined with vast experience and skills

Your role supports the Groundstaff Department and the AELTC’s goal of delivering the world’s premier tennis tournament and to support one of the world’s most prestigious tennis clubs

Proven knowledge and practical experience gained in a professional environment with grass tennis courts and other tennis court surfaces to competition standard and to include qualification in Land Based Service Engineering or equivalent

Up to date knowledge and proven skills and experience of grass-cutting machinery, hydraulic and electrical systems and fabrication and welding

Proven knowledge, skills, experience and competence with various IT systems including Microsoft Office Suite

Current full driving licence (Category B) to include a licence to tow machinery between venues as required. It is a condition of employment the successful applicant holds, and continues to hold, a current driving licence and be able to demonstrate the ability to safely operate a vehicle to the required standard

Recognise all events and matches are important to the image and the operation of the AELTC

Flexibility to include weekends, evenings and a different pattern of hours to cover events across all venues
