Overview:

Founded in 1892, Stourbridge GC is a busy private members club situated in Worcestershire. With a challenging 18 hole parkland course that is playable 12 months of the year, the course has excellent drainage being built on sand. It is a par 70, 6151 yard course and has been known to be the longest course over the smallest acreage of land and has a reputation for excellent putting surfaces.

Due to career progression, a Head Greenkeeper position has now become available at Stourbridge Golf Club. The ideal candidate will be an established and committed Greenkeeper with a proven record of golf course management They shall be forward thinking, embracing modern techniques and technology and have extensive knowledge of all greenkeeping practices/turf management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Level 3 NVQ qualified in Sports Turf Management (Required)
  • A minimum of 5 years golf course experience (Required)
  • Spraying PA1, PA2, PA6 certificate (Required)
  • Chainsaw Licence (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Irrigation Systems

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Greens Director, the Head Greenkeeper will be responsible for the general management and maintenance of the golf course, practice areas and resources in line with budget and course policy whilst managing a team of dedicated greenkeepers.

 

Main Duties:

  • To prepare and present the golf course in the best possible condition on a consistent basis.
  • To plan, monitor and measure the maintenance regime for the course to include set-up for competitions both internal and external through effective management of work schedules of the greenkeeping team.
  • To provide input into budgets, finance and resources required to maintain and improve the course.
  • To build and maintain effective working relationships internally within the Golf Club with all staff, the Board of Directors and the Club Professionals.
  • To liaise with owners of neighbouring properties bordering the course in relation to trees and any other matters that may arise.
  • To provide monthly course updates to the membership via social media and newsletters.
  • To liaise with third-party suppliers and contractors as required ensuring best vale is achieved at all times.
  • To recruit, select, train and manage greenkeeping staff and rotas.
  • To research and investigate product/technology changes which may impact or improve the course.
  • To participate in a planned program of professional development in order to maintain growth in professional skills and knowledge.
  • To ensure all relevant Health and Safety Requirements are up to date reviewed and complied with and bring to the attention of the Greens Director/the Board any matters relating to the health and safety of staff, members, and visitors.
  • To ensure that all members of the team who are operating machinery, tools and equipment do so following all safe systems of work and associated procedures.
  • Attend Greens Sub Committee Meetings
  • Recommend and assist with improvements for developing the course and the overall performance in line with best sustainability practices for future proofing the course.
  • To develop new techniques or processes to be deployed on the course for more efficient working.
  • To develop future project works plans in conjunction with the Greens Director for approval by the Board
  • Review course policy documents and recommend updates where necessary.
  • Identify any major course investments required and ensure timely scheduling into business planning.
