Overview

Leyland Golf Club is a busy, vibrant, progressive and forward-thinking private members club situated in Central Lancashire who are seeking to employ a dynamic individual to lead our established Greens Team. The Club which is celebrating its Centenary this year consists of an 18-hole Parkland course, practice areas, outdoor facilities and a modern clubhouse.

Role Detail

Role Purpose:

The Course Manager will report directly to the General Manager and is responsible for the management, maintenance, care, and overall appearance of the golf course and supporting areas. It is the role holder’s responsibility to maintain playing surfaces in line with the club’s Course Policy document ensuring the course offers a consistent challenge and an enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels of ability and to ensure clear, regular communications are provided to the Club Management and Membership on both a regular basis and ad-hoc as deemed necessary.

Requirements for the role:

Level 3 qualification or above in Sports Turf Management or equivalent.

You will be capable of directly managing and motivating staff to deliver high standards of work for daily activities ensuring a strong work ethic, attention to detail and pride in work is always upheld.

As a strong communicator and leader, you must, in addition, be seen to balance the physical greenkeeping duties and managerial responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Plan, monitor and measure the maintenance regime for the course to include set-up for competitions.

Provide input into budgets, finance and resources required to maintain and improve the course.

Liaise with third-party suppliers and contractors as required.

Build and maintain effective working relationships within the Golf Club with members, visitors and the Board of Directors and externally with suppliers, partners and vendors.

Contribute to service operational reviews with all stakeholders in the other business areas and the General Manager to develop a one-team approach.

Assist with the recruitment, selection, training and appraisal of staff when required.

Research and investigate product/technology changes which may impact or help improve the course.

Participate in a planned program of professional development in order to maintain growth in professional skills and knowledge.

Ensure all relevant Health and Safety Assessments are up to date and are reviewed as per the club’s requirements.

Bring to the attention of managers any matters relating to the health and safety of staff, members, and visitors.

Ensure that all members of the team who are operating machinery, tools and equipment do so following all safe systems of work and associated procedures.

Manage the environmental policy and course layout policy.

Promote equality and diversity for staff.

Attend and contribute to the strategic Greens Committee meetings chaired by the Greens Chairman:

  • recommend and assist with developing improvements for the course and the overall performance.
  •  to develop new techniques or processes to be deployed on the course.
  •  determine future training needs for Green staff in connection with techniques and processes.
  •  develop future project works plans and timescales (1-5 years).
  •  review course policy documents and amend where necessary.
  • Identify major course investments required and ensure timely scheduling into business planning.
  • Develop/determine and document contingency planning for prolonged dry/wet spells of weather.

Undertake other such duties, at any location, as assigned by the General Manager or Chairman of the Club or their representative.

This role detail is a guide to the work you will initially be required to undertake. It may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances. It does not form part of your Contract of Employment.
