Salary: in line with CGCS recommendations, starting from £44K but Commensurate with the responsibilities of the role and dependant on experience.
Contract: Permanent full-time position
Reports directly to: Director of Golf
Overview:
Founded in 1896, Chippenham GC has seen many improvements over the years and now boasts a par 72 Golf course, 13 bay Top Tracer Driving range, newly refurbished clubhouse, new greens shed, coupled with a substantial investment in excess of £200,000 in Course Machinery over the last two years. The course is midway through a bunker renovation project and significant path installations planned for later this year. With a growing membership and exceptional catchment area, there continues to be great opportunity for growth.

Due to the retirement of our long-standing course manager at the end of the Autumn, a unique opportunity presents itself for the next phase of Chippenham Golf Club’s development. The ideal candidate will be an established and committed Greenkeeper with a proven record of golf course management and raising standards. They shall be forward thinking, embracing modern techniques and technology and have extensive knowledge of all greenkeeping practices/turf management. They should demonstrate a proven track record in team management and the ability to think outside the box.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum Level 3 NVQ qualified in Sports Turf Management (Required)
  • A minimum of 5 years golf course experience (Required)
  • Knowledge of Irrigation Systems (Desirable)
  • Proven track record of raising standards
  • Extensive Project Management experience
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Golf, the Course Manager will be responsible for the general management and maintenance of the golf course, practice areas and resources in line with budget and course policy whilst managing, motivating and developing a team of dedicated greenkeepers.

 

Main Duties:

  • Whereas preparing and presenting the golf course in the best possible condition on a consistent basis in accordance with the Club’s Course policy is a given, the successful individual will Continually enhance working practices and recommend improvements to ensure that the Course and surrounding Golf Estate is developed in line with best sustainability practice and the most efficient staff performance
  • Develop a staff management programme that includes annual appraisals and development plans for all greenstaff that fits into an efficient overall greenstaff organisation structure
  • Contribute to the overall budget process and monitor actual spend on a monthly basis incorporating an extensive Machinery replacement plan and the periodical review of all supplier contracts.  Plan, monitor and measure the maintenance regime for the course to include set-up for competitions both internal and external through effective management of work schedules of the greenkeeping team
  • Be at the cutting edge in researching and investigating product/technology and formulate changes which may impact or improve the course
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant H&S requirements, ensure all relevant Health and Safety Requirements are up to date reviewed and complied with and bring to the attention of the Clubhouse manager any issues relating to course or the greenkeeping team and ensure that all members of the team and contractors who are operating machinery, tools and equipment do so follow all safe systems of work and associated procedures
  • Develop relationships with all key customers both internally and externally, with particular emphasis on managing upwards
