About the Club

Bird Hills is a busy and welcoming course set in Maidenhead, found in the heart of Berkshire.  We have exceptionally good transport links and therefore experience a high footfall of both member and visitor golf.

We pride ourselves on providing a great customer experience to all that visit us.   This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and ambitious professional greenkeeper to take the course and the team forward. Successful applicants must have a keen eye for detail, a flexible attitude to work and experience in managing a team.

Key Responsibilities

Course Management

  • To assist in the planning and implementation of general course maintenance and improvement projects.
  • To issue regular reports on progress to the Management and attend regular meetings with the General Manager and owner.
  • Work with the Golf Operations Manager to make sure all members and guests are kept up to date with course progress and plans.

Staff Management

  • To be responsible for the management and day-to-day supervision of Greens staff.
  • To plan and implement weekly work schedules, ensuring that sufficient Greens staff levels are maintained and scheduled work is carried out effectively.
  • To ensure Greens staff consistently follows governmental Health and Safety at work policies.


  • To manage the course maintenance, projects and developments within an agreed annual budget.
  • Attend meetings and provide reports on ongoing spending.
  • Establish and regularly update supplier contacts to ensure the club receives the best quality and cost effective goods and services for its course maintenance.

Attributes & Experience

  • NVQ/SVQ 3 or above
  • Must have Spraying certification PA1, PA2 and PA6
  • Previous 3 years golf course management experience required. This can be either in a supporting role or as a course manager.  This role provides the perfect next step for someone looking to progress to the next stage of their career.
  • Basic irrigation knowledge and repair skills
  • Maintain a working fleet of machinery
  • Able to work within an agreed annual budget
  • Good understanding of agronomy
  • Construction and project management experience desirable
  • Have a good understanding of current Health and safety in the workplace
